Rashida Jones Apologizes for Urging John Travolta to 'Come Out'

Rashida Jones has apologized for a comment she made about John Travolta in a recent media interview, urging the actor to "come out."

Talking to the website Spinning Platters, Jones was asked about her "obsession" with 24-year-old R&B singer Frank Ocean, who recently revealed that he fell in love with a man when he was 19 and in a relationship with a woman.

Her Celeste and Jesse Forever co-writer Will McCormack then said, "There needs to be, like, a professional athlete that comes out." Jones responded that it should be "a movie star."

"It's time. ... A movie star. Like John Travolta? Come out!" she said. "Come on. How many masseurs have to come forward? Lets do this."

But on Tuesday, the actress apologized for the comment on Twitter.

"Made a thoughtless comment about John Travolta," she tweeted. "I sincerely apologize. Nobody's personal life is my business."

Travolta, who has been married to Kelly Preston since 1991, was sued by two masseurs for sexual battery who also accused him of lewd conduct; both recently dropped their lawsuits. In June, the actor was sued by a cruise ship worker claiming sexual assault.

"This is another ludicrous lawsuit with inane claims," his attorney, Marty Singer, said of the most recent one.

Jones, who co-stars in NBC's Parks and Recreation, also stars with Andy Samberg in Celeste and Jesse Forever, which hit theaters Aug. 3. McCormack, whom Jones briefly dated, also appears in the film.
