Mel Gibson

Mel Gibsons stepmother has filed a temporary restraining order against the actor, claiming that she fears for her safety.

Joye Gibson, 78, married the actors father, Hutton Gibson, in 2001; he filed divorce papers last month, citing irreconcilable differences.

Hutton reportedly believes that Joye is guilty of elder abuse by withholding medicine that the extremely ill 93-year-old needs under the belief that the medication is prolonging his suffering. He is said to believe that Joye wants to discontinue all medicine to accelerate his death and that she believes thats what he wants.

In Joyes legal documents, posted online by E! Online and filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, she claims that she was blind-sided by the divorce papers and believes that Hutton was manipulated into filing by Mel and/or his sister Maura Dunne since hes a Catholic and doesnt believe in divorce.

In the papers, she alleges that she had disagreements with Mel and Maura about Huttons medical care, "and Mel made it clear that Joye's views on anything were not welcome and only caused him to be irritated and were ignored."

She claims that Mel sought unconventional treatments which evidently are not lawful in California, such as Ozone and stem cell treatments.

Joye goes on to describe an alleged incident in May when Gibson became "incensed and began acting like a wild man" around her. At one point, he was screaming and so close that I could feel his spit hitting my face and that his eyes "looked as if they were bulging out of his head; the incident left her nervous and unable to sleep.

She also alleges that the actor has committed domestic violence against her, including unlawful attempts to force her out of the home she has shared with Hutton since 2007.

In addition, she claims that Mel has a serious anger management problem if not perhaps a bipolar illness, for which he needs treatment. She claims his violent tirades have left her in fear that he will cause her serious bodily injury.

She is asking that Mel be required to stay 100 yards away from her and that he not block or interfere with my attempts to communicate with my husband.

According to TMZ, a hearing has been scheduled for next month.

Gibsons rep had no comment.

Mel's mother, Anne, died in 1990. He is the sixth of 11 children born to Anne and Hutton.
