>> Tuesday, July 3, 2012
Bart Layton's The Imposter, which had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January, investigates the disappearance of Nicolas Barclay, a 13-year-old Texas boy in 1994 who miraculously resurfaces in Spain years later in the form of a man who may or may be the same person.
Ahead its theatrical release on July 13, The Hollywood Reporter has an exclusive "Telling the Story featurette about the making on the documentary.
FILM REVIEW: The Imposter
The clip features Layton, along with the producers, discussing how they first learned of the story and how they translated that to screen using the case files from the FBI.
When we started production, we didnt know the truth, the objective truth, of what had happened to Nicholas Barclay, British director Layton says of the case.
The featurette follows the team as they dig into massive amounts of paperwork that they got from the FOIA. They then did extensive interviews with the family and the eccentric private investigator.
The Imposter has been garnering positive reviews at its premiere at Sundance and its screening at the SXSW Film Festival in March. The Indomina Group acquired the films The North American rights.
The Hollywood Reporters film critic David Rooney calls The Imposter, a mesmerizing psychological thriller bulging with twists, turns, nasty insinuations and shocking revelations that might have leapt from the pages of a Patricia Highsmith novel.
Dimitri Doganis produced the project; John Battsek, Simon Chinn, Molly Thompson, Katherine Butler, Tabitha Jackson and Bob DeBitetto are executive producers.
