LONDON X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner and Pixar co-founder Alvy Ray Smith are among the high-profile recruits for the inaugural Cinematic Innovation Summit to be held ahead of this year's Dubai International Film Festival.

Organized by the festival, the city's center for new cinema and business information banner naseba, the summit aims to look at the economic value of cinematic technology across multiple sectors including telecom, video gaming and advertising and even promises to see if the tentacles extend into healthcare, defense, and oil exploration biz sectors.

The event plans to spotlight advances coming down the pipe in artificial intelligence, game-style interactivity, ultra-real projections.

The summit is hoping to draw up a list of 200 executives from the world of movies, games, technology, finance, and more with Dean DeBlois (How to Train Your Dragon 3D and Lilo & Stitch) and actor Stephen Lang (Avatar) also on the speaker list for the event.

DIFF chairman Abdulhamid Juma noted that "cinema and the entire media ecosystem are being transformed by ground-breaking innovations in technology."

He said the fact the Summit "will set the scene for this years DIFF" speaks volumes "for the international recognition being placed on Dubai as a hub for evolving cinematic advancements."

This year's festival run Dec. 9-16.

The summit is penciled in to run Dec. 8-9.
