Sheffield Doc/Fest to Include Slew of U.S. Filmmaker Premieres

LONDON This year's Sheffield Doc/Fest boasts a slew of European bows for documentaries made by U.S. filmmakers.

The festival, specializing in feature-length documentaries, will play host to US fare including Mark Kitchell's doc about the environmental movement A Fierce Green Fire, Alison Klayman's ground-breaking take on outspoken Chinese artist All WeiWei, Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry and Bones Brigade: An Autobiography, directed by Stacy Peralta detailing the story of a skateboarding and its pioneers.

Organizers of the event also said there would be eleven world premieres including Argentinean born filmmaker Penny Woolcock's From the Sea to the Land Beyond and Chopin Saved My Life, directed by James Kent.

Filmmakers Julien Temple, Phil Agland, Alison Klayman, Lucy Walker, Morgan Matthews, Sean McAllister, Eugene Jarecki, Ross McElwee and Michael Grigsby are all scheduled to bring movies to the event.

The 19^th edition of the Sheffield festival, which runs June 13 through 17, will see 83 feature docs, 10 outdoor screenings, plus 27 shorts and four cross platform films unspool this year.

It is bookended by the European premiere of Malik Bendjellouls Searching for Sugar Manand is scheduled to close with an appearance by punk poet John Cooper Clarke who will attend the closing gala of Evidently John Cooper Clarke, which includes interviews with British music and comedy stars including Jarvis Cocker, Bill Bailey, Arthur Smith, Mark Thomas and Billy Bragg.

The event will also see the return of the industry event MeetMarket for producers and filmmakers.
